Aphid Season
Share
Yes, it's aphid season - April through August is typically aphid season. Commercial growers with frost protection will have noticed aphid way back in January.
Get control of aphids now (blackfly and greenfly) using trusted and proven biological controls.
How to get rid of Aphids
Aphid treatment or aphid control used to involve insecticidal sprays, but these have become limited, so aphid control now consists (largely) of natural, or organic methods involving predators.
We use the term aphid, but what we really mean is greenfly and blackfly. The black aphid is very often Black Bean Aphid - this is currently in abundance (May 2026).
It is possible to identify aphid species, but this can be time consuming. The description below will help. Certain aphid species have clearly identified predators, but a multi-species predator pack is the simplest and quickest way to address aphid.
AphiScout is a multi-species predator pack, consisting of 5 types of parasitic wasp
How to identify Aphids
Aphids are small , soft bodied, sap-sucking insects that cluster on tender plant growth.
Aphids come in all shapes and sizes, but have pear-shaped bodies and are generally given away by the two short exhaust pipes sticking out of the back end.

AphiScout
AphiScout includes 5 species of parasitic wasp for the control of a wide range of aphids.

Application
- Peel off the outer layer of the label starting at the upper right corner
- Hang the cylinder horizontally from a crop wire, branch, or leaf stalk by winding the label around it and sticking the end of the label back onto the label
- Turn the lid until the small holes align with the opening
Dosage
Start introduction preventively soon after planting of the crop. Introduction rates typically range from 0.75-1.5 parasitic wasps per m2. This is equivalent to one unit every 250-350 m2. The parasitic wasps will emerge within 2 weeks. Releases should be repeated when aphids are still present.
